An immersive prep school experience led by Chris Rose, Vice Principal of Aldro Prep School, and hosted by Charterhouse. Students will experience life as a UK student with morning academic classes in Literature, Science, Geography, and History, followed by afternoon activities including sports, art, drama, workshops, and excursions. At the summer school, I liked the campus in the Charterhouse. I liked the time when we watched the movie. The rice was different with Japan, and I thought Japanese rice was better. But all the food (except rice) was good. My friends were really friendly and kind. For the event, I liked the sports day. I extremely had fun at running. I really enjoyed the summer school!

Before joining, I worried about making friends and talking with teachers. But everyone was so friendly—even the teachers danced with us—which made me feel at ease. The classes were fun and had much more interaction between students and teachers than in Japan. My friends and Charterhouse were excellent and made every day feel full. The food was delicious and I loved playing many sports. After two weeks, it was hard to say goodbye, but seeing my friends again at the post-event party made me happy!

It was my first time in the UK, and I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the climate was. Classes were mostly discussions, and since there were no other Japanese students in my class, I had many chances to speak English, which was a great learning experience. Afternoon activities and electives let me try new things like playing squash. The food was delicious, and the staff were so kind and helpful. I made lots of friends and was really glad to spend two weeks with everyone.

What I realized in the UK was how convenient life in Japan feels. In Japan, it’s easy to express myself and understand teachers, so days pass smoothly. In the UK, every day was full of new experiences, and two weeks went by so quickly. Sometimes I felt nervous about my English and the unfamiliar environment, but seeing my Japanese friends work hard gave me courage. Even though languages and lifestyles differ, we are all human and live our daily lives in similar ways. That realization made me want to cherish the present more!

I also feel my listening skills improved, and being in the UK made me want to speak English better. Although the language barrier was frustrating at times, the best part was making many friends despite it!
